The Ruby Red was created in collaboration with Producer, Writer and Artist Butch Walker who has worked with the likes of Keith Urban, Katy Perry, P!nk, Ryan Adams and many more! He’s a very busy guitar player and after using the SuperBolt for a while, JHS decided to build him a pedal that could handle his various overdrive needs, whether they be mild warm breakup or snarling classic rock tones.
The Ruby Red is a SuperBolt on the left side, with a + toggle to add in more sag, compression and gain and a boost on the right side. When engaged, it sounds like a cranked Deluxe Reverb.
It’s a really transparent pedal and brings more attack and life to your drive sound and to your amp.
SuperBolt
The SuperBolt circuit on the left hand side is an excellent example of wild American-style overdrive. Like a cranked Blackface with the warm of analogue circuity, you can get a lot of ‘chime’ even with the gain turned on.
The little + toggle is a sag control which will dial in more compression and gain and really get you into Americana/Blues territory.
Boost on the right
The right hand side will act as a boost and can either be used as your lead boost (if you change the order so that the boost comes first – you can change the order with the toggle switch) or it will turn your overdrive sound into a big fuzzy beast!
