The “Sushi Muff”! Our clever friends from the land of the rising sun began in the 60s and 70s, to successfully copy effect devices and their circuit designs. But it was not just pure copying. The Japanese have always had the ambition to improve the models. The Maxon D & S from the Reissue series is such a candidate. In 1974 it saw the light of day – a Japanese version of the Mega Seller Big Muff – available as Maxon D & S (Distortion and Sustain) or with a different housing as Ibanez OD850. The circuit works with low noise, high grade Toshiba 2SC1815 transistors, the tone control has been optimized so that the bass area is not cut and the bypass circuit operates with a JFET buffer. Those looking for an alternative to the classic Muff, should keep the Maxon D & S in his mind.
